The 12-month check up

Okay, so here we go...details from the 12-mo check:

Sean: 18 lbs, 14 oz (3%) and 29 3/8 inches (34%)

Luke: 18 lbs, 8 oz (3%) and 29 3/4 inches (42%)

Charlotte (the peanut!) 17 lbs, 4 oz (3%) and 28 1/4 inches (18%)

They're small but healthy! The doctor encouraged us to butter/oil up everything they eat, and make sure it's high in (good) fat. She warned this trend will probably continue a while longer since they're so incredibly active at this age, but since they're eating well and developing on schedule there's nothing to be concerned about. Everything else checked out fine. I asked about a lead test due to all the toy recalls (even tho we didn't have any of the recalled stuff, I was concerned because it keeps expanding) and she said she's done a bunch of tests recently and even the kids with recalled toys came back low. So we held off. I was a little concerned about the whole verbal/communication thing because they haven't really said a word yet and she said as long as they have a few playful responses going...like they clap to patty cake, wave hi or bye, etc...that was age appropriate. She said by 15 months to definitely expect some communication.

And the best news...we're officially done with "adjusted age"...yay! Reviewing all their current skills, they're performing like normal 12-mo olds. We're just regular old kids now!

We are ONE!

Wow...feels weird to say that the kids are actually a year old. But they are, and we all survived. :-) I have a good friend with triplets that says it's not amazing that we survive having triplets, but that they survive having us as parents! Even with all the mistakes we make (along with the good stuff), they seem to thrive regardless.
We had a wonderful birthday celebration late last week. Auntie Laura and cousin Evan visited, as well as Grandma and Grandpa McCarthy. On Friday we did our first zoo trip, with pretty decent results. Charlotte LOVED it, sitting completely upright in her stroller the entire time. The boys were a little less enthralled, but enjoyed it nonetheless. We did the cake and gifts late in the afternoon, which was probably the highlight. These kids don't get a whole lot of refined sugar, so imagine their surprise when they dug in! And one of the biggest gifts of all was that Charlotte took her first steps just a few days before she turned one. It was SO exciting. I don't think the boys are far behind. And I thought I was tired THIS year!
Onward and upward! I think year two is going to be even better than year one.
